Spring Election Season Is Here

May 21 School Board elections and School District Budget Votes. For general information about running for school board visit the New York State School Board Association.

League Announces Candidates’ Debate for Monday, May 13

The League of Women Voters of the Cooperstown Area will hold a candidates’ debate for the three open seats on the Cooperstown Central School District Board of Education on Monday, May 13. The event will be held at the Cooperstown Central School Jr./Sr. High School cafeteria at 7 p.m. There are six candidates running school board: Padraic MacLeish, Matthew Monahan, Mary Beth Murdock, Keith Parr, Anthony Scalici, and William Streck. Monahan and Scalici are incumbents. 

Maureen Murray, a member of the Cooperstown Area League, will moderate the event. The school board elections are non-partisan; candidates do not run as members of a party.

On Election Day, May 21, voters will also vote on the 2024-2025 district budget. The budget for 2024-2025 is available on the district web site .

The election will be held at the Cooperstown High School, 39 Linden Ave., Cooperstown from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Any citizen, 18 years of age or older who has been a resident of the district for 30 days preceding the election is qualified to vote. Absentee ballots are available at the district office (contact Maria Field at 547-5364).

CherryValley Springfield School District Elections

 The Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School District Budget Hearing will take place on May 9, 2024 at 7:00 PM in the school cafeteria for presentation of the Budget. The Budget Vote and Board Election is scheduled for May 21, 2024 from 12 noon to 8 PM at the school building near the band room entrance.

This primary will feature elections for state legislative seats and U.S. congressional seats. More information will be available at a later date.
